Rainy, Cold Spring Sunday

What have I been doing today? After going to Sunday school and church this morning, we had chicken & rice soup with toasted pimento cheese sandwiches plus some wonderful pound cake. Our lunch was to help the youth raise money to support their trip to New Orleans this summer. Came home, took a nap and worked on trying to get the bedroom ready for a big file cabinet Wednesday.

After doing some reading and knitting, I decided to think of a list of some things I should be grateful for today:

1.     The lesson on fasting this morning
2.    Seeing a sick friend that is starting to get out and about.
3.    Calling my son
4.    A phone call from a special friend.
5.    Making scarves for the state wide Special Olympics for North Carolina and Virginia
6.    Making Shamrock's for the ladies at the Senior Center
7.    Perform a random act of kindness
8.     Spring cleaning
9.     Telling my friends that I am so proud of them
10.Calling my son

I've Changed Gratitude and Grace Around Tonight!

There has been some changes made tonight. I haven't been posting much about myself lately and this blog was getting full of book reviews. My daughter and I decided to make a blog for just my book reviews. I have named it Janie's Book Reviews. You can find it at jagette.blogspot.com. I think you will enjoy it. I am reading Christian books and letting you know how I like them. I will be starting to post more on my thoughts and crafting on this site.

Update on--Being lead by the Lord!

In my first post, I didn't mention that at lunch that day several of us were talking about wishing we had some "tea cakes" to sample. The man that was sitting with us had said "If you make some, I will sure help you eat them."

When the Senior Center opened up after the Christmas holiday, I found out this man had fallen on some ice and possibly broken his arm. Things just went from bad to worse with him. He had been in the hospital since and died, February 3.

When I took them that day, he was the first person that got a "tea cake" and he ate it so slowly, enjoying every bite. He ended up eating several more and I wrapped him up some to take home with him.

I am so thankful, that I listened to the Lord that day.

Happy Birthday to my son!

February 6, 1969--42 years ago--my son came into this world in the biggest rush. He decided that he had been hiding long enough and wanted out of the confinement he was in. From the time of my first contraction until his birth was a little over an hour. The doctor almost didn't make it to the hospital to deliver him. He had pretty, long black hair. The first time the nurses brought him to me, they had styled his hair with the cutiest, girly curl on top of his head. Needless to say, I pushed it down. But it was always back into a curl when they brought him to me. I finally asked them why they kept doing it? Come to find out, he was the only boy in the nursery and he had lots more hair than the girls did. They did have fun brushing and styling his hair.

Today, he is the father of two sons and is now raising them by himself, since his wife of 19 years has walked out of their lives.

This has been a hard couple of weeks for them, but they are taking it a step at a time and know that they can make it. With God on their side, they will make it.

Being lead by the Lord!

Tuesday afternoon, I came home from running errands and was trying to finish a white scarf I have been working on all week for myself. As I set here working, I kept hearing this little voice telling me to get up and make some cookies. I really didn't have enough stuff in my kitchen to make cookies. My feeling became stronger, so I decided I needed to go buy some supplies and make some cookies. I ended up make 2 batches of "Tea Cakes" and one of Googy Fudge Cookies to take to the Seniors I eat lunch with nearly every week day.

Wednesday morning off I went to deliver cookies. Everyone enjoyed them so much. I can't remember when I have made any cookies, so was surprised they were any good.

Then I went to one of the nursing homes in the town I live in to help with their Christmas Party. It was so much fun. So many people of different age groups, getting so excited about getting Christmas presents and cake, chips and soda. I helped them keep each other's presents separated and then marked them with their name or initials’. It was a lot of fun. One of the residents asked me to help her put on her new necklace and earrings. She was so sweet.

Now today, Thursday, I had to go back to get some more cookie supplies, since I felt the need to make some “Tea Cakes” for my son and his family. Then I got adventures and made them some Poppy Seed Bread. Hopefully I will get to eat a little bit of them also.

Still don’t have my white scarf finished, but have felt so good doing what I have felt lead to do.

Cloudy, Rainy, Gloomy Day

Today has been a dreary day. Cold but warmer then the first part of the week. It has been one of those days that you want to sit under a throw, drink hot tea and read a book. Except I have been doing some crocheting, watched a college basketball game and fixed supper. I must say I haven't gotten much done. Have also wanted to take a nap all afternoon, but so far have been able to stay awake.

I have 2 more scarves and hats to do, so something tells me I need to get busy. Plus, I am suppose to have "Radical" read by Tuesday night and have only read a few pages. Think I need to quit goofing off on this cloudy, gloomy, rainy day and put myself to work.
